Mission Statement

The Mind, Body, and Spirit Foundation, a collaborative community initiative,  that promotes health and wellness in the Bay St. Louis and Waveland communities while encouraging the pursuit of teacher education through the issuing of college scholarships for individuals that are preparing for a career as K-12 educators.

Purpose

The purpose of the Mind, Body, and Spirit Foundation is to provide easier access to teacher education through the granting of scholarships each year.  The scholarships will be awarded to a graduating seniors who is a resident of Bay St. Louis or Waveland and has indicated a desire to pursue a degree in teacher education, and teachers who is currently employed in a Bay St. Louis or Waveland school and have elected to pursue an advanced degree.

Background

The Mind, Body and Spirit Foundation was formed by a group of educators who became concerned about two major problems facing the state of Mississippi.

1.  Mississippi’s education workforce is not keeping up with demand.  Currently we have six-thousand educators who are eligible to retire.  Once these individuals take advantage of this option our state will be facing a huge teacher shortage.

2.  Mississippi is currently the most obese state in the nation.  We hope to impact both problems by raising funds for teacher scholarships through fun, active, and healthy lifestyle choices.
